Unleashing potential power of Chat GPT in Environmental Analysis
ChatGPT is a prototype dialogue-based AI chatbot capable of understanding natural human language and generating impressively detailed human-like written text.It is the latest evolution of the GPT – or Generative Pre-Trained Transformer – family of text-generating AIs.[2] It is an online chat conversational software application. When we talk of this type of technological innovation, terms like Reinforcement Learning, Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Machine Learning come into play.
ChatGPT can be used in a variety of ways to aid climate research, including in model parameterization, data analysis and interpretation, scenario generation, and model evaluation. This technology provides researchers and policy-makers with a powerful tool for generating and analyzing different climate scenarios based on a wide range of data inputs, and for improving the accuracy of climate projections.[1]
AI algorithms can analyze environmental impact data, such as greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and waste generated by different packaging materials, allowing companies to make informed choices about which materials are most sustainable and eco-friendly.[3]
Despite potential benefits that Chat GPT may offer, there are ethical, environmental and socioeconomic concerns raised. The boundaries of ethical and acceptable use of large language models to help scientific writing remain to be determined.[4]. There are concerns associated with employment implications of deploying this new innovation in industrial setting. In addtion, the race to build high-performance, AI-powered search engines is likely to require a dramatic rise in computing power, and with it a massive increase in the amount of energy that tech companies require and the amount of carbon they emit.[5] Current data centres will need reconfiguration in the advent of this powerful AI tool.
Like any other technological innovations, there will be pros and cons. Handling this technology will require appropriate regulatory framework to adress certain societal concerns. We cannot avoid turbulent technological wave that comes with understanding community pain and needs. As long as technological innovation reduces waste efforts and is adopted by all,no way can it be stopped. We need to put in place mechanisms to regulate it.
